Comfort Food

I've been thinking about comfort food.

I can't figure out why people think mac and cheese is comfort food. Mac and Cheese is your parents are working like crazy to finish a house and you and your three sisters are in the screen porch of the hospital house eating boiled hot dogs and kraft dinner.

I can't figure out why my mom can make a sandwich and its delicious, and I make a sandwich and its kind a gross.

And I've decided that comfort food, for me, is that stuff I can't make just the way my parents do. Something turns out wrong. I've mastered chocolate moose, sticky popcorn, orange biscuits... are you seeing a pattern... none of them are dinner, and I've made those when I was craving comfort.

But today I was thinking about how I can't make stir fry like my dad, and how my mom can make the crock pot rice and chicken thing and I can't. And then my mom posted this, she must have been on my wave length.

Huh, I had decided recently that comfort foods are those that make you feel full and make you fat. My favorite is a pot roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. Chad thinks it's commoner/peasant food. I think it's delicious. And it was a treat growing up. I love it. I eat way more than I should in one sitting. Also on this list are au-gratin/funeral potatoes, fresh biscuits, apple pie, and corn on the cob, yum! I am so hungry now.
Your dad's art and recipes are cool. Eye-talian, he's funny but don't tell him I told you!

I define Comfort food as something yummy that I didn't make for myself!

I was looking through your recipes and found this old post. I also can't make stir fry or fried rice like Dad. And I've practiced lots. Although I have the disadvantage of Kevin not allowing chow mein noodles in the house.
