No Secret

a 2011_12_06 174

I asked my mom once why she stopped doing pastel drawings, one of the reasons was we moved to Minnesota, and there is only one color in Minnesota: Green (or white depending on the time of year). Personally, I love that green or white. The Green is vibrant, alive, and comforting. The white is serene, fresh, and comforting.

In New York I was able to find just enough green, and there was plenty of white, and I found a new love in architecture with little details that add interest.

It's no secret that Utah wasn't my first choice. It's brown here. I find brown dead, hot, and dry. I look forward to the few days a year where there is some white covering up all the brown so I don't feel so home sick. Utah doesn't exactly meet my aesthetic. But, the point of all of this is that I am still looking. I am still looking for those things that I'll find beautiful. And while I don't think I will ever love dead, hot, and dry, I'm starting to see some beauty in it.

That all said, I am dreaming of a white Christmas.

I loved, loved, loved Zions National Park and Escalante when I lived in Utah. I always wanted to go see Goblin Valley State Park, too, but never got there :-(
