I took the boys to the Natural History Museum on Friday for a preschool field trip.
The whole time we were there I was wishing for some light. I get that the ocean room should be dark, because you are supposed to feel like you are underwater with that big whale. But don't you think that Africa would be well lit? I had to use the flash to take any photos.
Justin called during his lunch break while I was there. "Are you having fun?" he asked. "Well, I'm not interested, and Reuben doesn't seem to be either." This was when I was sticking around to get my money's worth after all of Reuben's friends had left. I'd rather be at an art museum. Reuben would rather be at the park.
My favorite part was the gems, Reuben could care less about them. I like looking at pretty things, and I also like not being forced what to think. There was no introductory movie telling to think this thing or that. There were no loud narrations. There were also no elementary school tours in that room.
I'm sure there was science, lots and lots of science involved in the creation. But, I'm also sure that there was someone applying that science, a creator, a mastermind. Reuben didn't want to hear about that, he wanted to just run up and down the twisty ramp.

Yes, Africa should be well lit! Looks like the Bean Museum. But I bet they didn't have a liger.
I know what you mean about the low lighting - our natural history museums here are the same. I'm guessing that it may have something to do with preserving the hides and butterfly wings, etc? But maybe not. Maybe it's about atmosphere? Or electricity costs? Or fusty curators with weak eyes? I really have no idea :)
But I think your photographs are lovely :)
I'd also rather be at an art museum. Or a park.
However, the twisty ramp does sound like fun :)
