Home Remedies

The cold and flu fairy has taken up residence at the Cook Shack. Daddy has the worst of it. Reuben seems to be over it. I'm close. Simeon needs to sleep.

Justin finally admitted defeat and went to the doctor today. He is allergic to penicillin so the doctor didn't want to prescribe anything for the sinus infection that is causing a whole lot of problems. He gave him a list of home remedies. Steamy food, spicy food, saline solution, warm compresses. He mentioned the Neti pot but couldn't recommend it because he wouldn't do it to himself. I had been pushing for one because of the whole breastfeeding-can't-take-medicine thing, so Justin finally got one.

We had great fun flushing out our sinuses. Justin's was pretty impressive because he is the sickest. Oh, its gross to watch, grosser to do, but boy do I feel better. I haven't breathed through my nose it a week, so its a nice change. Reuben watched and laughed, I asked him (knowing he would say no) if he wanted to try, he refused. "That is just for you and daddy." I'm thinking I might survive allergy season this year...just saying.

That's interesting that you and I both broke down and tried it, despite the disgusting factor, this very week. I will be using it again as well, but I didn't do anything creepy like invite anyone to watch me do it.

I need a neti pot since my sinuses are outrageous when I'm pregnant and pretty much outrageous any other time of the year. Maybe it means I'm allergic to Washington..hmmm..

Anyway, glad you guys are feeling a little bit better. Hope the sleep fairy comes to visit you soon!

Have you tried flushing it out with a baby snot bulb? You know the green contraction you see in stores or at the hospital?

Glad it works for you. I love to read your blog. Keep up the good work, and I hope you all feel better soon. Tell Justin that Sister Linde (she served in our mission also) is her ward Relief Society President now. Doing good.

Ah the neti pot. I will sometimes 'netipot' in the shower. It gets the job done, combined with the steaming, and avoid seeing the yuckiness.

What is 'the Neti pot'???

(I'm kind-of-cringing as I ask.. I'm pretty sure I don't want to have to read it but I would like to know...
Can you describe it to me obliquely? .. being gentle to me as one with a funny tummy for yucky things? :< Please? :)

(I'm glad 'it' worked and that you feel better :)
