Just when I thought

Just when I thought I could do this two-children-in-the-city thing, the situation will become more difficult. Starting the week of the 26th, we will live in a 6th floor walk up. They will be "modernizing" the elevator, which means it will be out of order until the end of January.

We will be getting a 20% cut in our rent (when you pay New York rent-even student rent-20% is a lot.) Some of that will probably end up going towards an ergo carrier because the chances of me getting Reuben, Simeon, the stroller, and the diaper bag down the stairs and back up are slim to none.

On the bright side I will not be tempted to join a gym, because I will have plenty of cardio. Reuben loves the stairs. We'll have to learn how to grocery shop per meal, which might save us money... if we can do it, and not just run out of food at order take out all the time. Mom just bought us a laundry bag so we will be able to get our laundry down to wash. I won't feel bad about taking up all the washers cause I won't be schlepping 4 loads down and up at once.

We knew it was coming we just never thought it would come because they have been threatening it since we moved into the building. What does that remind you of? We all better get repenting.

i can sympathize but without all of the gear-lugging up the stairs. our apartment in paris was torture to walk up and down. at least we only had to transport our luggage up the stairs once at the begining and once downstairs at the end.

Way to have a good attitude about it! Hope you get it all figured out, it goes well, and the time goes by quickly! :)

The Ergo is awesome! Walking up and down six flights of stairs, not so awesome. :( Good luck with the situation!

I have tried a couple of carriers, and ended up with the simplest one of all, you can customize it for your size and wardrobe, and is very flexible (you can use it as a front carrier, hip carrier, back carrier, sling, and many others...) check out a baby wearing website. I can't find the one that I used (I actually made a couple)

You can't feel the baby weight, doesn't hurt your shoulders or back (it isn't supposed to anyways, if you do it right) and is very comfortable.

Lots of sellers/patterns out there if you look.

I also have a Mei Tei carrier that I like for when the baby gets a little bigger (12-18 months...) you can get them off of etsy, probably the baby wrap too... let me know if you want more info! I could mail one out to you with directions so you could try it with out buying one...

Disaster! Sorry Brecken :( I used to hate just living on the third floor at Carriage Cove because it was hard to carry the groceries up and down the stairs!

Don't worry, one day, when you're all grown up, you'll live in surburbia and have a car that drives you right to your front door!

Off to do my repenting!

xo Tammy :)

Oh no!! I'm impressed that you sound so brave and positive about it. Can Justin do the shopping for you sometimes?

1. How much food storage can you reasonably hold in your house so you don't have to leave?
2. What would you have to give Justin to have him do the laundry, grocery shopping, etc so you can stay home?
3. Is schlepping a word?

Brecken, I am so glad I saw this post. My #4 is getting way too big for his little front pack and I have to have something to put him while I teach sharing time, help in #1&#2's school classrooms, grocery shop, etc. I had never heard of ERGObaby before. It looks PERFECT! Thanks for sharing a great find!

P.S. I still think you are the bravest girl I know. Good luck with the stairs!

Ha! I love your veiled reference to the second coming!
I cannot imagine schlepping a toddler and a baby up six flights of stairs. It might kill me to carry mySELF up six flights! Go, Brecken!

p.s. We had a family discussion about family schedules tonight, and when it came to me, I said, "I don't have any plans. I just schlep everybody else."
