On this Day

Dear Brecken:

September 5th.

This day was made for YOU.
On this day in 1698, Peter the Great of Russia imposed a tax on beards. And here I sit, beardless, just as you like it. In 1882 the first Labor Day parade was celebrated in New York City. Inspired, of course, by the Canadians, and to make your Minnesota heart proud, some strife in the labor movement led to the creation of a national holiday. Now we get to go on our yearly vacation to a tropical island...in our apartment, calm, serene, just us--and always near YOUR birthday. As a reflection of your desire for peace, on this day in 1939 the US proclaimed neutrality in World War II. It didn't continue, nor could it at the time, but the general idea is something to work for, and you perpetuate that ideal being yourself a peacemaker.

On this the momentous fifth day of September in nineteen-hundred and eighty-one, the world welcomed you, Brecken Reasor. Number one on the charts was the song Endless Love by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie--not your favorite, but it represents a feeling you inspire. The winner of best picture of that year was Chariots of Fire. Like the protagonist of that film, you are someone who stands firm in your beliefs and give me strength to uphold mine.

As you move into this your twenty-eighth year, here are some reasons to celebrate why it too was made for YOU.

Did you know that the number twenty-eight is a happy number? It is also the second perfect number. It is classified as such because it is the sum of all of it's divisors. (No math wiz here, I learned it on Wikipedia). Think about how all of your many talents and characteristics add up to make you who YOU are, a remarkable woman.

According to Hebrew Numerology, Gematriya, the number 28 or koakh means "power" and "energy." (also Wikipedia) Think about this as you encounter your next wave of challenges. You are empowered and are capable of commanding all of the wonderful (and yes at times frightening) challenges that you are about to face.

Thank you for your strengt
h. Thank you for making my life a bountiful journey of sensory delight. For opening my world to delicious flavors, glorious sights, and sublime sounds. Here's hoping for a close-to-perfect year, filled with power, energy, happiness, peace, harmony, and beardlessness. I will continue to be awed by your power to navigate the journey and be my every day muse.

Happy birthday. I love you!
Love, Justin

Happy Birthday BRECKEN!! Justin, that was an impressive, romantic, and sweet post for a most incredible woman! You really are so amazing and SO LOVED, Brecken. (And missed.) We really need to overcome our fear of phones and talk soon. Or at least make our husbands do it for us. :)

Lots of love and joy for this new year...

I was hoping this post was about you having a baby on this day...but that's because I forgot what day at the beginning of September your birthday is! I am glad you do not have to share it with your new family member and still have two desserts that month. Happy Birthday!
