Toothless

I discovered why so many of the lower class are toothless, its the dentists, and bad medicaid insurance.

I was assigned a dentist, so I called to make an appointment to fix my filling. Well, there was no waiting area but 10 people waiting. I was finally seen an hour after my appointment. He pretended to clean my teeth, he didn't touch the inside of my teeth, or the very back molars with his tooth brush. He drilled the remaining part of the filling out, and then kind of put a new one in. I understand you don't have to recline a chair to fill a tooth, but thats the way its always been done to me. I don't know how long you have to let a filling set, but it has usually been a few minutes. There was no bite test, no smoothing, no making sure all the nooks were filled. Just a "Well, thats it."

I was drinking some water 4 hours later, and swished it around in my mouth because there were little bits of filling grit coming out from the space between my treated tooth and its neighbor, and then there was a BIG bit of filling, the whole brand new filling to be exact. So I'm back to a hole in my tooth, except now that the hole was drilled in it hurts like crazy. I wasn't even flossing, I was swishing water around in my mouth!

So, we called to see if we could switch to a different dentist to get it fixed, because how stupid do you have to be to go back to the guy that put a filling in that only lasted 4 hours. Well, we could switch dentists, but then medicaid won't pay for the repair.

I hate that it is okay in our society to treat poor people as non-entities. I hate being treated like a non-entity, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Arrgh.

Brecken, I am so sorry. It's not fair how people can get away with treating people so unfairly.

Oh, Brecken. I'm SO sorry! This is why I'm terrified of any major health issues happening us in NYC while we're on Medicaid. It's why Rhys is almost 6 months behind on his shots, and why David and I paid cash to see our old dentist in Utah during Christmas break. I just don't trust the medical care I have access to here! I hope you get it fixed quickly somehow!

I'm sorry your dentist is a quack. And here I am looking for a new dentist because the hygenist at the one I went to brushes my teeth so hard they hurt.

You should ask Brad Jarvis if he has any dentist friends someplace by you guys. He's my friend on facebook. Or maybe he's going to NYC tomorrow and will just bring some fillings with him...

I know a kid at Dentist School in Pennsylvania, and that's closer than Spokane.

That's terrible!

Come to Australia. Jonny's only in his 3rd year, but I reckon he could do a better job for you! He's already seeing patients in the university dental office....

Sorry it hurts :(

This is a very hard way to learn about the evils of socialized medicine. True principles are lacking in the system such as choice and Accountability. Isn't there a way to report the quack who is being paid by the system?

I don't think its "socialized" medicine, I think is rich people medicine and poor people medicine.

Yeah, can't you get the dentist to pay for you to go to another dentist or something. A filling that falls out is not good business. There must be something you can do. How awful that you got to get it done quickly though and probably out of pocket since it should have been done right the first time. Could always try throwing a hissy next time in his office if the 'doctor' isn't practicing his practice. errrrrrrrrrrrr!
