Holiday in Bryant Park

Justin had just enough time to go with us to the Bryant Park Tree lighting. It was exactly what I hoped it would be, and I am so glad that we went.

The tree is a gift from Canada, so it was like a huge Canada party. The Canadian Brass, The Canadian Tenors, Some Canadian Synchronized Skaters (the Haydenettes), Canadians Sale and Pelletier, and Michael Weiss, and of course the Barenaked Ladies.

You can feel like you were there by watching this. We were in on the side of the rink directly across from the tree and stage, but it didn't feel like there were 1,000 people there so I was happy.

My favorite part of the whole night was hearing Ed say"You guys better be good, I have a direct line to Santa." and Steven following it up with "I have a direct line to Satan" There was a bit of banter, and then a "He gives crappy gifts."
The lights didn't turn on for the first countdown, and then when they did the second countdown they came on early... but I guess that is what you get when you go to the less crowded tree instead of the Rockefeller Center.

Reuben's favorite part was the flying girl. She is way more impressive in person, just being able to see how high she was, and that there was nothing but her own sheer strength holding her up there.

Justin's favorite part was the ice skaters. He had never seen figure skating live before. And was surprised to find out that I could skate backwards, and took figure skating lessons in my childhood. He thinks I should mention things like that more often.

We sang along to Michael Feinstein because he said we could, as long as we did it in his key.

I love Christmas in New York, it is by far my favorite time here. I love that the streets are filled with Christmas music, that there is all kinds of free stuff to do, and some pretty great photo opportunities. We are hoping to see the train exhibit in Grand Central, and the tree in the Metropolitan Museum, and of course the Rockefeller Center Tree...Just not tonight when EVERYONE is going to be there to see that silly Hannah Montana girl.

ok, so where was this one? was it last night or monday? we went to the tree lighting that was part of Winter's Eve, and I guess there is usually a huge tree in lincoln center, but there was renovations, so they did this dinky tree, and the singers and other entertainment were horrible. the rest of the night was fun, but i was hoping for something a little more a long the bryant park lines. looks cool. glad you had fun. we should go to the grand central station together, i know asher would LOVE that. see you tomorrow.

I think I saw you on the video of it. It is about 13:35 into. On the side. It looked like you and Justin. that is exciting. Is this the park that we went to, to see Fiest?

OK, I watched the clip over and over again where Courtlin thought she saw you...but the people are so small on my screen! It looks like a lot of fun...especially being with so many Canadians. Did you feel like you were 'at home'?
Thanks for the link to Michael Feinstein. I really like his voice, wow!
Your pictures are beautiful as always!

Jed and I watched some of this on TV and I wish we had gone. Definitely sounds less overwhelming than the one at Rock Center. So glad you had a good time! Isn't Bryant Park such a nice atmosphere?

Oh Brecken, that sounds so fabulous :) I got to speak on the phone with Emily this morning, and we were talking about this blog entry of yours, and I said that I reckon those pictures are the epitome of what 'Christmas' should be in my head. (I've probably watched one to many Christmas movies - which are all set in NYork, by the way), but still. It looks magic! I love the wonder in Reuben's eyes :)

Sorry Mindy. It is a close up and the people on the side are close and there is someone wearing the hat Brecken was and about her height standing next to a tall man.

I love that picture of Justin on top...because he looks exactly like Jeff and Reuben also looks like JOsh at that age. Major deja-vous!

Looks like you guys are having SO much fun!
