A Date

Justin and I had found some discounted tickets to see Curtains a week or two ago. It was our "hey we met 5 years ago" date. Of course the timing could have been a little better but we had a very nice time, and it was nice for me to think about something else for a while.

David Hyde Pierce makes the show. I usually don't like it when its obvious that one guy is why the show is so popular, but I have always like him, and liked him even more once I found out he worked at the Guthry in MN. Justin thinks its okay that my favorite part was David because he said, "That was the part meant for me." Which is true, Justin would make a great Detective Cioffi, but I'm still glad I got to see David Hyde Pierce do it. There are some pretty great songs, and some funny lines, but there are also some parts that make it so I can't recommend it to my mother.

I loved how many things they managed to make fun of, both musically and situationally. My favorite was the "tough act to follow" daydream dance sequence. (There is a clip of it on the website.) They do this whole Ginger and Fred song and dance and then say, "oh, were thinking what I was thinking?" It makes fun of all those cowboy and western musicals, and every single murder in a theater company with a detective who wishes he were a star play. Its a little predictable but very enjoyable.

So, if you are in New York before June 29th, and you don't mind a saloon dance sequence I'd recommend it.
