I usually don't like novels that have lots of hype surrounding them, but my curiosity causes me to read them. And, I am usually correct in my dislike, and if I have read them I have a right to dislike them.
So I borrowed Twilight, and read it in three days. And, I have to say that I liked it, hype and all. I was a little disappointed with the suspense at the end, I thought it could have been worked a little bit more (after all it took 200 pages to find out what we already knew from the back of the book).
I haven't read a book that fast since school (when I had to read them that fast.)
I'm a little disappointed that I can't make fun of it, because if you've heard my Harry Potter and Jane Austen rants you will realize that I enjoy making fun of very popular literature. But I'm not embarrassed that I liked it, I'm pretty amazed that a BYU Grad has done so well.

i feel the same way about hp and jane austen, and i felt the same way about twilight. i loved it though, but then i tried to get into the second one and i just couldn't. my librarian friend just picked 'luxe' as the new 'it' series. i'm gearing up to hate it...:)
I also wondered why they thought it would be suspenseful to not tell us he's a vampire for 200 pages. I need someone to tell me what they like about Edward, and then maybe I can read the third one and enjoy it.
I'm of two minds on the series. I liked the books--thought they were creative and well-written, but they were so incredibly sappy that I wanted to gag at times--especially the second one. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the fourth one, which is supposed to come out in a few months.
I went on a vampire kick for a while and read Dracula, which I highly recommend and "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova, which was a good read, if a bit long.
This series is quite interesting. Here's a clue though: Don't read the back of any of these books or it takes the fun out of them. I don't know why you'd spoil your own book like that by posting the spoiler in the back. Dumb. Anyways, for Talyn, I found that if you like the furry character found in book 2, you will hate book three. If on the other hand, you like the more stony character, you'll like book 3.
I think it is creative and fun. However, I think just like many movies now days, the main character needs more development. It seems like her character development dies at the end...which was disappointing.
This series is kind of funny because for me, I couldn't put it down, and then when I did I laughed and wondered why I was so excited about it.
