Reminder

My high school choir director and his choir are in New York, so Reuben and I went down to St. Patrick's Cathedral today to hear them sing, and get to chat with my old mentor. Their choir was very good for as young as they are. It was nice to chat with him for a second before they ran off to the next thing.

It made me realize how much I miss singing. I miss it a lot...a lot, a lot. I miss it so much I was really sad. Its just not the same singing lullabies and action songs (although I love doing that). I haven't challenged my voice, and I haven't had the opportunity to make good music in a group. Its so strange that I defined myself as a singer for so long, and if you know me know you could hardly guess that. When it is my turn to take some time for myself, that is what I will do. Find a good choir to sing with, that will challenge me. Hopefully I'll get my voice back by then.

I thought, briefly, about how my life would be different if I had gone to Ricks when "they" said they could get me into the music program there, but I stopped when I remembered that I wouldn't have met Justin, and wouldn't have had Reuben. I guess that was one of the sacrifices I had to make.

So, food of love, I miss you. I hope to return to you soon.

What's wrong with joining ward choir?
Today I just realized that if I wasn't in the choir I'd probably not be practicing my flute as much. I put it away for periods of time when I pick up another hobby but the choir has been keeping me on my toes lately. Well, almost ever since we got here. I really enjoy singing in it too. WE both know I don't have your voice, but I love feeling the Spirit when I sing in sacrament meeting. If anything, that's a good reason to join choir...even if it's not challenging (to you).

I've considered offering to start a ward choir just for that very reason.

You should start a ward choir. It would give you a place to keep your vocal talents limber until you can find the right time and place to truly challenge that amazing talent of yours.

I was quite impressed when I went back to Sterling Singers after 2 and a half months off and could still sing my high notes easily. It was the first time ward choir has helped me keep my range. Probably because I direct it and thus have to sing the soprano and tenor as well as the 3 notes in the alto part.
