Weekend with Snow

Saturday night we got the Christmas decorations down and up. (They were all in the tippy top shelf in the closet, and Justin had been too busy to get them.) We listened to Christmas music, we decorated, we had chili for dinner, we answered Reuben's "What's that, what's this?" question 23 million times. A three foot tree is not as satisfying as a regular size tree. But, it does look great. Just not the kind of tree you can turn off all the lights and watch the christmas lights twinkle. I love a full christmas tree, and ornaments have so much meaning to me. I can remember who gave them to me/us, or when I bought/made it for myself.

Justin was so touched by the Christmas spirit that we started watching christmas specials. The rockette special on nbc had a wonderful ending (a creche), I just thought it was sad that Meredith Viera had to justify it. We also watched The Santa Claus, and were impressed at how old we are. It seems like that movie just came out, but it came out in 1994.

The alarm didn't go off this morning, and we woke up at 8:45. This wouldn't have been a problem if we lived in a regular place where living three miles from the church meant you could get there in five minutes. While I was looking for socks I heard the familiar sound of metal scrapping on cement, so I peeked out the window, and my ears were not playing tricks on me, there was 1/2 inch of snow.

I learned a few things about survival in New York snow. I should wear a hat, because it was dang cold (my hair froze, which I do not think it did the whole time I was in Utah.) I need some church shoes that don't slip on snow, or get clumps stuck to the bottom so it feels like you are walking on rocks. Even the subway seems to run slower when it snows. And, I really do love snow.

Justin asked, "So, what do you think about the city in snow." The answer is, snow doesn't really change the city, the city is still the city. But the snow makes me feel like God is still in control, even in New York City, where it seems like man has done everything they could think of to make it man made. They can build "nature" and make a beautiful central park, they can build buildings so high you rarely see the sun, or the sky, and they can pave everything in sight. But the snow will prevail, and that is comforting, even though it makes it difficult to go any where.

I knitted again today, and made this hat. Impressive, if I do say so myself.

Hey! I've wanted to know how to do that twisty thing for ages! I'll have to call you, or you'll have to tell me the website again.

1. I love the snow! I'm so glad it snowed for you :)

2. The hat is so cute, and now you can go out and match Rueben!

3. I was late for church on Sunday too :(

4. I think your christmas tree is lovely, and it looks bright enough to turn out the lights and watch it twinkle - you should try it anyway, even if it ISN'T a big tree :)

5. I miss Rueben :) Give him a big hug for me!

What picture is Tammy looking at?

Great job BRC!

Don't any of you guys sleep? The time on your comments seems very late. But when my children were little my mothers wanted my to go to bed early. But I was up with the kids, like some of you guys. Maybe Tammy's time is listed as American time received when it is really daytime in Australia as she writes.

Hi lark! I'm looking at the picture of Justin and Reuben decorating the tree :) And don't worry, I'm not staying up that late! Most of the time I write comments during the day here (from 7am - 6pm) while I'm at work - it must just be recording American time. I was a bit of a late owl when I lived in the States, but now, I'm in bed by 10pm most nights :)

Cute hat! Your right about the snow in NYC, it is hard to deal with, but at the same time it brings a sense of "hey, God is still here" feeling with it.
