Benches

New York Bench (In Riverside Park)

Minnesota Bench (on Sylvan Point Trail)
A 2010_08_24 036

In New York I would look at the bench, and think, "Oh, that would be a nice bench to rest at for a minute." And then look down, and see a million more benches, then keep walking thinking I won't stop until I actually need to. Then I'd get so close to home that it would be ridiculous to stop.

I took the boys for a long walk on the one hot day we've had in the last couple of weeks. First, it was hot and I was expecting it to be cool. Second, I didn't realize that the trail I was planning to take wasn't paved (and I had Simeon in the stroller.)  I love my stroller, it is a wonderful city stroller. Shocks for a smooth ride, good curb jumping abilities, easy steering. But, it is not an ATS (All Terrain Stroller). And, without pushing the stroller everyday my calluses were weak. So, when I saw a bench I thought, "perfect," and we stopped. Benches are few and far between here. When Reuben was bored we started walking again, I managed to skip the next two benches, but stopped at the end of the trail to sit on the bench. Reuben had a wonderful time trying to climb a tree. Simeon had a wonderful time watching Reuben fall down repeatedly. We walked back without stopping, got home and drank a bunch of cold water.

And my thought was, "Boy, I'm glad I didn't have to climb 6 flights of stairs to get my glass of cold water."
