On My Own

My parents left Sunday morning. It was one of those situations where I had to let them go, even though I think we both had doubts that it was time. I was cursing the fact that we didn't live in a more comfortable place so I could milk another week out of them.

Sunday I spent the day fighting back tears, so pleaded with Justin to stay home with me.

Monday we had two different appointments. Justin was able to go with me to both, and they were rather painless (including the walks to and from). Then Justin had his night class. I managed (because we had leftovers for dinner). When Justin walked in the door, Reuben jumped up and yelled, "DADDY!!! I"M SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK!!!" It was sweet, but I was a little sad that Reuben was in such need of some attention that he was so excited for daddy to be home.

Today I've been on my own since 10. We managed to go to playgroup, and now I'm thinking I might try to take a nap, and have Reuben watch a movie. Justin will be home a little after 5, and I think I might make it.

So, while I wish my parents were still here, I might not NEED them here as much as I had thought. Dinner tonight might be scrambled eggs and oranges, but we can survive on that.

It sounds like you are doing great. I'm impressed that you got to playgroup!
I'm a big believer in just doing whatever you need to, to get through the day, as long as you're all ok. Scrambled eggs and oranges sounds good to me :)

Brecken dear, for what it's worth, I have absolutely no doubts that you can do whatever you need and want to. I'm so sorry your parents had to leave though (I know that panicky feeling of seeing them walk away when you're pretty sure they should just stay where you are!). Yet again I find myself wishing that I lived next door to you so I could just pop in and reasure you in person (do you think technology will ever progress to the whole 'beam me up scotty' stage?!), BUT, it sounds like you're doing absolutely fine. Great even! I can't believe you made it to playgroup :) And I second mum's advice to just do whatever you need to do to get through the day :)
Even Superwomen are allowed a little winge occassionaly though, so if you feel one coming on, just email it to me, and I'll listen as lovingly as I would if I was sitting on your couch.
Love you girl!

Yea! your super mommy power is kicking in! :) I'm glad you're hanging in there and its going well. I made it half way to the park, but we passed too many playgrounds. We want to bring you dinner soon. We'll keep in touch (my phone had a water bath today, so I might have J and J coordinate). Thinking of you...Take care and great job on all you're doing!!!!

On your own is always the hardest part. Reality sets in. Hope you're good with reality and get a routine down (that includes a nap for you). Good luck!

Hi Brecken,
I am so sad I missed Simeon's blessing! These first few days without your parents have probably been tough, but I have no doubt it will only come easier and easier with each day! I would love to help you in some way - I probably get home too late to bring you dinner, but I could watch Reuben for you if you need a break sometime. Please tell Justin that I offered and have him call or text us if there's a good time to take me up on it. Please don't hesitate to ask!!!

Oh, Brecken, my heart just ached for you when I read the title. I know you'll make it, but, as one film widow to another, I totally remember that sinking feeling when my helpers (friends OR family) had to leave.

I wish I were closer.

Hey Brecky, just checking in to let you know I'm thinking of you.

Hope you're happy and having a wonderful (though I imagine exhausting) time with your beautiful boys.
