Summer on the Hudson: Accordion Festival

Saturday evening we went down to Pier i in Riverside park for an Accordion Festival. I have to admit I was a little disappointed because the first group we saw was not very good. You have to have good vocalists if you are going to try and play pop songs on accordion, and then you have to play them up to tempo. Reuben was itching to go look at the water, which he did get to go see.

But not to worry, the next two groups were great. Reuben loved dancing to the Dominican Meringue, and quickly made friends with the other two children that were there past eight. It started to sprinkle and we walked up to the bus stop amid fireflies and rats.

I wouldn't have thought that pop songs and accordions went together. :)

Only in New York would accordians play pop-songs :)

These 'Summer in NY' entries always sound so completely whimsical and 'childhood summers of days gone by'... but then again, I'm not the 8 month pregnant mother braving the heat and the subways to get Reuben to all of these wonderful places/experiences.

Ode to you Brecken :)

PS. I'm still totally convinced that I'm a New Yorker at heart! :)
PPS. Miss you! Hope all is going well. I think we're well and truely overdue for dinner and a movie.

Fun times! Congrats on your outings and the dental experience! I like Justin's thoughts about the metaphors to parenting and hypnobirthing (I'm starting that with this pregnancy). :) Great stuff and good luck with the heat wave, staying cool and final stages of growing your baby! You can do it!

Mmm, did you say, rats?

I'm glad the concert ended up good, though.
