Evil Queen

Reuben has taken to giving me the role of "evil queen." He says, "You are the evil queen and I am the boy."

The funny thing is this didn't bother me at first. And then, when it started to bother me it did for different reasons than I expected. I'm fine playing games with a villain in it, and I'm fine playing the villain, and I'd rather be an evil queen than a monster or a bad, bad robot. But, it made me think about the sheer amount of evil queens there are in fairy tales and movies. There are only a few Disney movies where the antagonist is not a woman. I never noticed it before.

When daddy plays with us, he is the king, and I loose my adjective.

Reuben doesn't have the attention span to get to a change of heart for the evil queen, but that also means that I get to return to mommy pretty quickly. Unfortunately, with these bad allergies, and no pregnancy-safe medication that works on me, "mommy" has many similarities to "Evil Queen." Hacking, low rough voice, throaty laugh, general crabbiness caused by headaches and sore throats, blood shot swollen eyes.

Ha! You should start singing Mozart's Queen of the Night (AKA the Evil Queen) for him!

I love that you're role-playing with him, even when you don't feel good.

That's hilarious. I've noticed that, too-- I think it spurs the "don't-turn-out-like-mom" syndrome!

Oh Brecken, you poor thing! I'd love to sit for you so that you could rest up for a day in bed - but the distance might be a problem...
I had not thought about the 'evil woman' thing before. The Pied Piper was a man.. (and isn't that an awful story, now I think of it -ugh!) You're right - there are so many 'witches' etc. Maybe so the children wouldn't be too scared..?
Hmmm. Maybe you should write some new ones :) Starring Reuben and his beautiful, kind, wise mother...
