Village

“However full of faith children come to us, they face the challenges of a fallen world. What does it take to help these children keep the light of faith in their eyes? We know that nothing can replace a righteous family in the life of a child. But in today’s world, children will need not only a devoted mother and father, but they will need each of us to protect, teach, and love them.” Margaret S. Lifferth

I am very lucky to have grown up in a "village." We had a network of people who cared about us. I desperately want that for Reuben, and felt like I had that in Utah with my sisters and Tammy. And then Tammy left, and then I left. And building a village takes time.

But I realized today that I have a village here. Its small, and has room to grow, but there is a network of people her who care about Reuben. Several people asked him about his head (thank you for showing you care about him). And Reuben stood up in the middle of sacrament meeting and pointed to Jed and said "Jed" and pointed at Kate and said "Kate."

I'm very blessed, so even though I miss having a "bosom friend" I do feel very loved. Dinner when I was sick and feeling overwhelmed, people loving my son as much as he deserves to be loved, and invitations to dinner. So, tonight, I feel like we can make it here. It maybe that I spent the day seeking comfort, so that is why I'm feeling so comforted. Or it could be that I really don't have very much to complain about.

I was just checking out all your NY adventures. It's nice to know there'll be someone to show us the ropes! And, sorry I never answered, of course you could come visit us!

Brecken I miss having a 'bosom friend' too - so much. But I'm glad you've got a village growing up around you :) Mum once gave me a little card that said 'bloom where you're planted' and I guess it's easier to do that when I stop jumping out of the soil! :)

Give Reuben a hug for me!

PS. Not sure I really get all the honey comments (although I'm assuming you're reading Pooh. But for what it's worth, I like honey :)

PPS. There's a nasty comment on the previous entry that you might want to delete :{
